As Aston Villa announced on Friday through social media, Phillipe Coutinho will return to the Premier League and join the Lions for a single-season loan from FC Barcelona. The agreement is still pending a medical evaluation which will be fulfilled in the following 48 hours since Coutinho will travel in this period of time to Birmingham.
The Premier League club said in a statement "Aston Villa and FC Barcelona have agreed on terms for Philippe Coutinho to spend the rest of this season on loan at Villa Park.
"The agreement, which is subject to the player completing a medical and receiving a work permit, also includes an option to buy and Philippe will travel to Birmingham in the next 48 hours."
Steven Gerrard, Coutinho's old teammate at Liverpool played a key role in this deal since he was the one able to persuade the Brazilian into his team.
He didn't have many minutes at Barcelona with Xavi, Koeman, and Valverde so after arriving in Spain in 2018 he has decided to reduce his salary and try to return to his previous form and become a relevant player once again.
Coutinho did test positive for Covid-19 last week but he will be cleared to make the trip to England and maybe even make his debut on January 15 against Ragnick's Manchester United.
