Despite the Club's financial crisis, Barcelona's board, and partners took a vote on whether if the Espai Barça should become a reality or not. The results ended up with 89% of votes in favor, and the rest being either blank or a no.
The improvements would include the future stadium, hotel, and offices, the Palau Blaugrana (the basketball court), the bus station, the Petit Palau and an ice rink, and the Estadi Johan Cruyff. Known as Espai Barca, this space will be an open area with modern installations.
The works will begin on the Camp Nou in the third quarter of 2022 and will be finished at the end of 2025. One of the main changes the Camp Nou will go through is adding almost 6.000 seats, so it will shift from 99.354 seats to 105.000. The new size of the pitch means it will be the biggest football club's stadium in the world. The first row of stands will not be changed, but the VIP boxes in between the first and second row will be moved up a level to make it in between the second and third ones, and another ring of boxes will be built. The third and last row will be expanded up since now it is shorter than the other two. The seats will be 100% covered by the new roof.
The new roof will have at the top over 30.000 m² of solar panels to make the Future stadium sustainable. Further improvements will be made to the roof because now it will have a 360° scoreboard. Another improvement is the integration of the arena and the city, to make this as previously mentioned an open space. Currently, if you visit Camp Nou it is surrounded by fences and they want to add a sensation of open space and make it feel like it belongs to the city rather than a private terrain. The last part of the improvements in the stadium is the outside, which will be totally new and will be a huge terrace to let the fans view the rest of the city from the stadium.
Next to the arena two office buildings and a hotel will be added, both these buildings will help to finance the Espai as well as the visits and museum, sponsoring, events, and more. The whole project will be done
